The Petathon was one of a kind fun event that that took place in Chembur, Mumbai on the 23rd of Oct was sponsored by Sai Estate Consultants and Ghostweis – The Long & Short Of Weimaraners and was organized by Princely Paws – Canine Training, Behavior Modification Consults, Grooming, Pet Sitting, Dog Walking, Bach Flower Remedies & Animal Communicator services, Traiblazers & Rythmic Running.
A part of the proceeds from Petathon would go to our charity partner In Defense of Animals at Deonar for the countless work that they do for Rescues & Animal Birth Control programs(Spay & Neuter).
Petathon was a 1 mile walk/run that you had to do with your dog. Participants with their dogs started pouring in post 5:45Am. One of the few that came in early were 3 Siberian Huskies that started a howling melody that woke up any sleepyheads at the venue instantly. By 6Am the Happy Tails Veterinary Facility Team – Dr Umesh & Dr Hrishikesh Karkare & Dr Namita Nadkarni had done a quick check on all the dogs participating for the event.
We had a mix of various dogs, Siberian Huskies, Neopolitan Mastiff, Spitz, Labrador Retrievers, Indian Pariahs,Pekingese, Daschunds, Shih Tzus, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever etc. The Petathon was flagged of at 6:20 once all the humans were briefed to keep a walking pace with their dogs until a certain point to warm up after which they could either run or walk till the finish line.
The best part was that the Happy Tails Veterinary Facility decided to join in the run/walk to make sure that they were available to attend to any untoward incident with first aid(Yay!! for committed vets). It was interesting to watch how “monkey see monkey do” came in to place when one of the dogs started running the rest followed and then it was a race to the finish line.
The line up of the first 3 winners were 2 huskies followed by a German Shepherd. The participants were all given medals and goodie bags. Special prizes were awarded to the first 3 winners additionally.
Who better to award those prizes and goodie bags to all the participants than a hero that makes a difference in the lives of the dogs that we love so dearly, so we had Dr Karkare do the needful!!
Pet Parents Speak
Most pet parents admitted embarrassed that they couldn’t keep the pace with their dogs and slowed them down. They vowed to do better not just for themselves but for their dogs too by running every day if they could because they knew how much they had enjoyed themselves.
